Observation Narrative	Plot located along the upper reaches of South Fork Piney River east of Tar Jacket Ridge in a streamside hemlock forest. This portion of South Fork Piney River flows through a low gradient rather broad stream valley. The presence of Sorbus americana probably indicates frost pocket phenomena. With the pending death of hemlock, the herb layer should see a flush of new growth well worth monitoring. Measured trees in plot (dbh in cm.): Sorbus americana (22.1), Tsuga canadensis (37.5), Prunus serotina (59.3), Betula allegheniensis (23.1).
